What is a Mastermind Group?

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. ~African proverb

The saying above simply and aptly describes the purpose of a Mastermind Group.  It is a peer to peer mentoring group to help its members solve their problems with input from other group members. Napoleon Hill coined the term Mastermind Group in his books, where he referenced it as two or more people coming together in harmony to solve problems.

How is it structured?

The individuals that form a Mastermind Group are usually working towards common goals or have similar interests. The participants are dedicated to becoming better versions of themselves, above all. They have regular meetings and there is a facilitator that guides the process and loosely leads the group.

What are the benefits?

A Support Network

When you join a Mastermind Group, it’s as though you have a personal cheerleading squad. You get to be part of an exclusive group of people, with shared goals and common interests. It is important that members of the group are able to communicate freely, openly, and have genuine conversations to truly gain value from being part of the group. This results in true connections and even long-lasting friendships. Mastermind Groups have also been known to be therapeutic and supportive of mental health.

Accountability

We have all been barriers to our own success when we say we are going to do something but for one reason or another never get it done. It is easy to let goals go unmet when no one knows about your ambitions. Mastermind Groups, surround you with individuals who are keen to see you succeed and hold you accountable for your own success. They can also help you think through tactics and take steps towards achieving your goals. At the end of the day though, you need to follow through and take action.

Growth

Each individual in the group has had different life experiences. Therefore they can challenge your perspectives, expose your mind to bigger ideas and help you see a different picture. A Mastermind Group offers one the unique opportunity to experience breakthroughs and grow both professionally and personally resulting in a better version of yourself.

Networks and more networks

A mastermind group offers access to strategic resources that might otherwise not be available to you. This is most especially the case in business-focused Mastermind groups. Since every individual comes in with their own unique network, members of the group are able to assist each other with connections and contacts. It is not unheard of for members of the same Mastermind group to strike a business deal. Mastermind Groups are built on trust in more ways than one. Introducing someone to your network, reflects well on you.

Problem-solving

A Mastermind Group presents itself as a lab where one can experiment and learn, helping you fill gaps in your knowledge. You will find a trusted circle of individuals willing to give you genuine advice, help you gain clarity on what your challenges are, guide you to make decisions, and take action. It offers you a safe space to discuss your problems and an opportunity to learn from other peoples’ mistakes.

You help others (and yourself while at it)

Often we second guess ourselves and are clouded by self-doubt when faced with tough decisions. As you help others within a Mastermind Group, you get to reflect on your own wisdom and realize that you have what it takes. This piles on the self-confidence, boosts morale and of course, builds lots of good karma.
